Export Targets for 2028 were Finalized at ISIB Sector Strategy Workshop of Turkish HVAC-R Sector

The HVAC-R Strategy Workshop, where the Turkish HVAC-R Exporters Association (ISIB) determined the Turkish HVAC-R sector’s roadmap for 2028, discussed the strategy and economic developments, and shared the important administrative and commercial developments experienced during the year with its members, was held at Antalya Cornelia Diamond Hotel between October 31 and November 2, 2023. The ISIB Export Leaders Award Ceremony was held as part of the workshop program, and the top companies were awarded.

In the workshop, which was hosted by Mehmet Şanal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISIB, with the participation of more than 200 sector stakeholders, an interactive session was held on export targets for 2028, and future expectations for the development and vision of the sector in the forthcoming years were discussed. The workshop also identified focal points for improving the effectiveness of ISIB’s activities in the forthcoming years.

A memorial ceremony was held on behalf of Levent Aydın, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISIB, who passed away in recent months, at the workshop where presentations were made by Economist Fatih Keresteci on the current economic situation and expectations, Prof. Dr. Emre Alkin on generational conflicts in company management, and Prof. Dr. Tolga Akçura on digitalization and digital transformation.

Delivering the opening speech of the workshop, Mehmet Şanal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISIB, stated that ISIB has become the most important stakeholder of the sector exporters with its vision of inclusiveness in many areas and added: “The global HVAC-R market grew by 13.95% in the last four years, reaching 580 billion dollars. The Turkish HVAC-R sector grew by 45% in this period. When we examine the sector’s subgroups, we can say that it grew by 23.3% while the world global sector grew by 15.08% in terms of the subsector of Heating Systems and Equipment. While the global sector grew by 15.7% in terms of the subsector of Refrigeration Systems and Equipment, we recorded a growth of 48.6%. While the global sector grew by 6.7% in terms of the subsector of Ventilation Systems and Equipment, we achieved 60.7% growth. While the global sector by 20.5% in terms of the subsector of Air Conditioning Systems and Components, we grew by 66.7%. While the global sector grew by 13.3% in terms of the subsector of Installation Systems and Elements, we grew by 45.8%. While the global sector shrunk by 2.1% in terms of the subsector of Insulation Systems and Elements, we grew by 45.5%. These results demonstrate that we are organized as a sector, that we are moving forward with a specific strategy, and that all sector stakeholders are working hard.

Our primary goal as the Turkish HVAC-R sector is to get 1.5% of the global market and to be a sector that has a foreign trade surplus. We believe that we will have achieved this goal within a few years. This year, we have achieved an export-to-import ratio of nearly 90%. The share we received from the global market as a sector was 1.30%. The sector’s unit price per kilogram rose to $6.1. According to the data from TIM (Türkiye Exporters Assembly), we are the 11th largest sector in Türkiye. We are the 19th country globally in terms of export size. Our sector’s exports exceeded 6 billion dollars as of late October. We expect to close the year with an export volume of 7.2 billion dollars.

We participated in 15 exhibitions in different countries for our exporters with our national participation and info booth models in the first 11 months of 2023, and we organized Sectoral Trade delegation activities for the ISK SODEX exhibition with Israel, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Russia and Belarus, and Poland. We have conducted sponsorship and advertising works at many exhibitions. We are moving forward strongly in coordination with all sector stakeholders.

Stating that they are implementing an efficient and effective sales and marketing strategy in global markets with all stakeholders, Mr. Şanal provided information regarding the Sector Strategy Workshop and said: “We have set a 400-billion-dollar export target for 2028 as a country. As a sector, we would like to reach an export volume of 10.6 billion. In line with this goal, we identified potential target countries at our workshop with our stakeholders. We discussed the opportunities and obstacles ahead in detail. We have reviewed ISIB’s activities and overseas strategy.”
